Chocolate Dipped Sugar Cookies

Delicious crispy sugar cookies coated with chocolate make a fantastic treat! Put some in a pretty bag or bakery box and share them as gifts!
Chocolate Dipped Sugar Cookies
Preheat oven to 375° F. Lightly grease baking sheets (or line pans with parchment paper).
Cream butter, shortening, white sugar and confectioners' sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and the vanilla.
Sift the flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar together. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture and blend.
Shape the dough into into 1-1/2 tbsp. balls for 3" cookies. Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place on the prepared baking sheets. Dip a glass in white sugar and press balls flat. 
Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.
Let the cookies cool completely.
Using a microwave safe bowl, slowly melt dark chocolate candy coating wafers in the microwave for 30 seconds, then stir wafers. Repeat the 30 second intervals and stirring until coating is completely melted.
Now you can either dip half of the cookie into the melted chocolate or spread chocolate on half of the cookie with a spatula.
The chocolate makes all the difference!!!!
Note: You can also use milk chocolate candy coating, if you prefer.
