Turkey Leaf Cookies
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Cream sugar and shortening together. Add eggs and dry ingredients. Add the milk last. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness, cut out and bake 10-12 minutes.

Use either turkey or leaf cookie cutters to cut out the dough. Let cool after baking, then decorate with appropriate colored icing. ( Leaf-shaped cookie cutters are easier to handle, but a combination of the two will make for a lovely pairing.)

For extra effect, make a double batch and use the second bunch for a centerpiece. Colored jimmies or candy corn over the icing adds a nice, colorful touch. Put an orange or gold napkin on a serving platter and arrange attractively.

To use as place settings, write each name with cookie icing or buttercreme icing and decorating tip #3. These look really cute as place markers and can just be put in the middle of each dinner plate or propped up against the water glass.
