Cornmeal Buns

Bake up some delicious rolls! This recipe is perfect for dinner rolls or hamburger buns!

Finished Dinner Rolls


  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 6 to 6-1/2 cups flour
  • 2 pkgs. yeast - dissolved in 1/2 cup water

Cooking Mush



1. Cook the milk and cornmeal to a thick mush and remove from heat.

2. Add the butter, sugar and salt and let cool.

3. After cooling, add the yeast dissolved in water, beaten eggs and 3 cups of the flour.

4. Let this mixture stand for 20 minutes until bubbly.

5. Then add 3 to 3-1/2 cups more flour until you have a soft mix.

6. Knead until dough becomes elastic.

7. Let rise for about an hour and then punch down.

8. Now let the dough rise again for another 45-60 minutes.

9. Punch down and divide dough and form into buns - creating a smooth crown on top.

10. Let rolls rise for another 45-60 minutes

11. For 2 dozen hamburger buns bake 12 minutes at 400°F

      For 3 dozen dinner rolls bake 20 minutes at 350°F.
